I think the main reason why ranchers or even farmers are not rich or lack net profit is this: they lack fruit trees.

In a ranch, there must be fruit trees dotting here and there, on a 20 meters distance or more to allow light and grass.

It should not be ranch alone or orchard alone... it should be both ranch and orchard wisely blended together, hence, RANCHARD. ... if you want sustainable wealth and avoid selling your ranch!

I love the ranch so much that I am so sad with the recent development where the ranch is becoming more and more unsustainable and more and more of them are for sale... and are bound for industrial conversion into, say, home subdivisions or factories, etc...because cow raising is no longer sustainable due to the inevitable abandonment, partial or complete, of cow products by consumers who have suffered the cruelty of red meat, processed milk, fat and their by-products, e.g., dairy.

The cruelty is in the form of CVDs (heart attack, stroke, etc.) and cancer (over 100 types).

Now, if you are a member of a family where at least one member was killed or has been paralyzed by CVD or cancer, would you continue your unlimited indulgence of fat-meat-milk especially in their processed states?

The answer is NO for the majority of the American people have been moving away from cow after decades of seeing CVD as the consistent No. 1 killer of the Americans, claiming over 600,000 lives a year while cancer, the 2nd biggest disease killer, claiming over 500,000 lives -- read: loved ones! - a year.... Question: WOULD YOU CONTINUE THE CARNIVOROUS EATING HABIT, MODERATE IT OR COMPLETELY SHUN THE COW?  

The bankruptcy of hundreds of ranches in the USA is a  clear evidence that people are cutting off their cow products consumption, in differing degree, some partially, many completely.

My own preference and direction may not please the ranches but I would go for the Swiss way: they do not eat the cow but make  use only of its milk, dairy products such as chocolate, cheese, etc.

They opt to love and keep their cows as old as they can be... Or if they raised cows for beef (meat), it appears to be the exception and not the practice and tradition of the Swiss who got rich... very rich by not killing and eating cows but by keeping them as healthy as possible and alive as long as possible and only utilize its produce: milk, and dairy byproducts.

And what is their reward for that? Switzerland has been blessed to be one of the top richest 5 countries in the world, not per GDP or national income but per capita (per family!) which is what counts the most for what is it for a country to have the highest national income or the richest country in the world but its people are very poor!

So, the Swiss have it right.

I love the ranch... I love the animals so much and the scenery that I vehemently oppose the disappearance of ranches... by going for its further development and fortification using fruitrees to avoid the ongoing collapse for as a ranch, without fruitrees, the ranch is proving to be a foundation of sand, it cannot stand the ongoing crisis of CVDs, cancers and paralysis and the people's reaction in the form of abandoning cow products, which is a death blow to the ranches!

So, for me, who loves the beauty and serenity of a ranch, comes to the rescue by suggesting the insertion of fruitrees to save the ranch!

There is no other better way. The other way is sale and most probably its disappearance as a ranch!

So the preservation, in fact, its enhancement to higher level in both beauty and profitability, is in here: ADD FRUITREES!
